Ms. Reba and Mr. Larry Martinez

Started Blue Streak Stables Summer Camps in 1995.  Larry and Reba have been married for over 20 years. They started out as grooms and worked many hours with horses.  Progressing to Exercise Riders and then to Licensed Professional Jockeys in California, Oregon, New Mexico, Washington and Texas. They were Jockeys for over 8 years.  After their careers as Jockeys - prceeded to Licensed Trainer for Race Horses.  They were licensed Race Horse Trainers for over 10 years. The average number of horses trained at one time were 30 head always in the barn.  They employed 4 Grooms and 5 Jockeys.  They were exceptional at keeping horses in perfect racing form through training and nutrition.  They were always in the top 10 leading trainers in the Quarter Horse meets at Manor and Bandera Downs and usually tied for 1st and 2nd leading trainers with their multiple winning team.

In 1995 they decided to settle down in one place instead of traveling so much with the racing circuit. They first started giving riding lessons and opened up hour long trail rides to the public. Then decided on week long camps to show children what it really ment to take care of horses.  They enjoyed the children who took lessons. All the children wanted to learn more about horses than just riding.  They wanted to learn how to take care of horses by feeding, grooming, saddling and all the other chores.  Larry and Reba started week long camps to show them what it was like to care for horses.

Larry and Reba became Certified Riding Instructors 1998 in both Western and English.  The programs for the Summer Camps are centered around and promote Safety Around Horses both on the Ground and Mounted. Lessons plans were created for each camper.  Testing on where they were at and what needed to be improved on riding skills.  Programs were also developed for Social Skills in working as a team.

Campers are now learning how to care for horses and be part of a team in the Horsemanship Camps, But! not only did the children learn these duties.  Mr. Larry and Ms. Reba also had a learning experience. "It is amazing how the children's personalities change." says Reba. Reba explains - All campers come to camp with a love and appreciation for horses. Many of the campers may be timid, shy, not sure of themselves, even kind of scared to try different things. I did not believe that I would see such a change in the campers from just working with horses.   In them having responsibility and accomplishing goals in riding some of the campers have a complete turn around in their personalities. They show improved self confidence & greater self esteem. By having improved self confidence their positive attitudes and smiling faces really show.   This is the main reason for Horsemanship Camps.  It is all for the children's benefits.  "Seeing a big smile on their faces, is what makes this all worthwhile" says Mr. Larry.
