ENGLISH lessons offered to the intermediate and advanced riders.

Lesson Plans with goals are designed for each class that builds on one another. This gives the student self confidence in accomplishment with every lesson. Horsemanship safety both in ground handling and riding is always our top priority. Learn the safest way to work around horses through a safe riding environment with professional instructors certified in their field of teaching riding. Lessons focus on communication skills, body alignment, balance and an independent seat which are the building blocks in becoming a good rider.

Riding Skills –  Whether the camper has never touched a horse before or if they ride horses in competition; the below sequence of riding skills is the basic building blocks and foundation needed for any riding discipline including Western or English.  A “secure seat” will give them balance and body alignment. The rider communicates with the horse by applying pressure with their hands, legs, and weight this is called their natural aids.  If the rider does not feel secure in the saddle, they will try to stay on by squeezing their legs, holding onto their saddle or constantly pulling back on the reins (poor horse’s mouth) just to keep themselves from falling.  If they do not have their balance they will not be able to communicate with their horse, they are just barely staying on and will eventually fall.   In completing each step outlined below, the camper will feel more secure on the horse and less likely to fall and have better skills of communication with her horse.

Each day campers progress through these steps at their own ability.  Some may take a few lessons just to accomplish one step. Experienced riders may pass through many of these building blocks in one day.  Each skill must be accomplished and demonstrated satisfactory to the instructor before moving to the next goal.
